The Congress-Bundestag Vocational Youth Exchange Scholarship is offered for up to 25 graduating high school seniors with a vocational background. Students spend a year in Germany pursuing additional training in their trade areas and living with host families.
The program, administered by Nacel Open Door, starts with two months of intensive language preparation following arrival in Germany. Then, students are placed in a training program or work situation related to their technical training. Students must provide their own domestic travel to and from Washington, D.C. and about $350 a month for spending money. Their international travel, language training, room and board, two seminars and health insurance are provided by the Open Door program.
A number of past SkillsUSA members have participated in this exchange program and found it to be a positive experience. For more information, call Nacel Open Door at 800-622-3553 or visit www.nacelopendoor.org.
